The Trellis Center’s mission is to help participants increase independence in their lives through a variety of recreational and community engagement activities.
We strive to create environments where adults with developmental disabilities are understood, valued, and given opportunities to grow individually and contribute to their community.
Our Garden program provides a connection with nature, wellness benefits, and a place to grow success.
Our participants experience a variety of garden-related tasks such as mapping out growing areas; budgeting, shopping for seeds, plants and tools; turning over the soil; planting the vegetables, herbs, and flowers; fertilizing, weeding, watering and harvesting.
Learning to work as a team, through gardening, our participants strengthen their communication, problem-solving, decision-making, and relationship-building skills.
The garden program also provides an opportunity for our participants to practice their customer service skills while marketing the fresh produce, herbs, cut flowers, candles and other items at our seasonal farm stand.
The goals of the garden program include developing new plant knowledge, basic life skills, expanding social skills; and instilling a life-long love of gardening.
