The PEI Farm Centre’s Therapeutic Horticulture Program offers hands-on, land-based activities that support mental health, social connection, and overall well-being. Rooted in principles of social ecology and community care, the program engages participants in growing food, tending gardens, and working with the rhythms of the seasons.
Designed for people facing a range of challenges—including veterans, youth, seniors, and individuals experiencing mental health or social barriers—the program provides a welcoming, inclusive environment where participants can build skills, confidence, and a sense of purpose.
Through guided activities, shared meals, and time spent outdoors, participants experience the restorative benefits of nature while contributing to a vibrant, community-based food system.
We are one of the largest urban farms in Canada we operate as a social enterprise with 200 community garden plots, a community orchard, s commercial kitchen and a goodwill garden from which we donate 8-10,000 pounds of organically grown fruits and vegetables to various charities to help alleviate food insecurity.
Participants are referred through community and health partners, and contribute to growing fresh food for local distribution. The program combines therapeutic support with meaningful, hands-on farm work, fostering both personal well-being and community resilience.
