Join the Care Farming Network for our “Virtual Deep Dive” — a one-hour, in-depth look at a single care farm in our network. Think of it as a virtual farm tour, minus the mud boots.
This one-hour “Deep Dive” features GAAMHA, which operates two care farming programs at Evergreen Grove, a 115-acre equestrian estate in Gardner, Massachusetts.
The Carl E. Dahl House is a residential recovery home for men 18 and older with co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders, where residents live and recover on a working farm alongside goats, pigs, chickens, and horses. R.O.O.T.S. serves adolescents and young adults ages 12 to 24 navigating substance use and mental health challenges. Participants engage in animal care, Equine Assisted Learning, barn work, and hiking alongside individualized counseling, integrating farm-based experience with clinical early intervention and recovery support.
Joining us for this Deep Dive are Shawn Hayden, President and CEO of GAAMHA, and Breanna Murphy, Therapeutic Farm Coordinator. Shawn will speak to the organization’s vision and the big-picture story of how care farming fits into GAAMHA’s work, while Breanna will bring us into the day-to-day life on the farm and the work happening with their animals at Evergreen Grove. You’ll hear their origin story, how they operate day-to-day, what’s working, and what’s hard — followed by 15 minutes of open Q&A.
Whether you’re an aspiring care farmer, an established practitioner, or simply curious, you’ll come away with a real, on-the-ground picture of how one care farm is building community, purpose, and meaningful employment.
Registration is free. Everyone is welcome.
