Farming For the Future Academy, Inc. offers a variety of programs for adults, teens, children with and without diverse abilities, autism and special needs. The academy is focused on agricultural and educational programs based around each persons needs and abilities.

Barnyards to Battlefields Animal Therapy and Life/Job skills program was founded in 2016. The program was established when students arrived with the desire to work with the animals and when many veterans residing at the Montana Veterans’ Home wanted to have contact with the animals, but were not able to come out to the farm. Students learn how to care and manage the farm animals by feeding, watering, exercising and grooming. When the student feels confident and secure with their animal they take the animal over to the Veterans’ Home to give pleasure and therapy to the residents. Our research shows that many students with communication issues are able to communicate and socialize when presenting their animal, and many veterans receive pleasure and interaction…it’s a win-win.

Onions for Autism Veggies for Vets garden program was established in 2013. The Academy needed a place to teach life -lessons and a place where people could go to connect and become empowered by working with the soil to grow food. Many of the skills learned by working in the garden can be transferred to later employment, social settings and independence.

With the help of invested volunteers, we are capable of meeting the needs of our diverse community. Many students and veterans work side-by-side at raised garden-beds to work the soil and to socialize. Students learn how to use the soil to bring food to their kitchens for tasty meals and how to sell or donate the surplus. Many times, at the end of the day the garden’s Pizza Oven is fired up and the vegetables are used for meals.
