At Dutton Farm, our vision is to create a just-world where you will find dignified inclusion in our schools, workplaces, government, communities, churches and beyond. Born from a mother’s love and respect for her daughter Rebecca “Becca” Smither, Dutton Farm opened its doors in 2010 when Michele Smither recognized the lack of adult supports once Becca aged out of school. Determined to help her—and others facing the same challenges—continue growing and exploring their talents, Michele turned concern into action.

What began as a small, family-led gathering has blossomed into a thriving nonprofit serving more than 150 adults across Oakland and Macomb counties, guided by Michele and led by CEO Jenny Brown. Today, with programs in adult education, community involvement, art, and workforce development, Dutton Farm remains true to its mission of empowering adults with disabilities to live a life of purpose, inclusion and dignity. We incorporate structured activities and hands-on learning in horticulture and animal care.

Our on-site skill-building program is designed to empower individuals with developmental disabilities by enhancing their abilities and fostering independence through structured activities and hands-on learning. We focus on a range of essential and pre-vocational skills, including communication, social interaction, problem-solving, and teamwork. Our Workforce Development program assists participants in securing competitive, integrated employment through Supported Employment (SE).

Our Community Involvement program offers a variety of extracurricular activities designed to enhance essential skills such as communication, problem-solving, time management, and self-advocacy. Through carefully selected daily outings that include volunteer work, consumer interactions, and physical exercise, participants engage with the broader community, fostering interpersonal and decision-making skills, listening, and social awareness.
