Salt Bridge Farm (SBF) is a therapeutic and vocational care farming initiative in development, operated by Bright Harbor Healthcare, a nonprofit behavioral health and social services organization serving Ocean County, New Jersey since 1959. The farm integrates agriculture, animal care, and nature-based programming to support healing, skill building, and community connection for individuals facing behavioral health challenges, housing instability, and other life barriers. Through hands-on agricultural experiences, participants engage in meaningful work that builds confidence, practical skills, and emotional resilience, reflecting Bright Harbor Healthcare’s belief that healing happens not only in clinical settings but also through purposeful activity, connection to nature, and supportive community environments.
As a developing initiative within Bright Harbor Healthcare, Salt Bridge Farm expands existing services through therapeutic agriculture and vocational skill building. The 6-acre farm is being developed as a healing-centered agricultural space with vegetable production, greenhouse growing, flower and pollinator gardens, and areas for small and rescue animals. Programs will include horticulture training, animal care, vocational skill development, youth programming, food access initiatives, and community education. Primarily serving young adults ages 18–24 facing life challenges, housing instability, and recovery from substance use disorders, the farm offers experiential learning that promotes emotional well-being, responsibility, and connection, while building pathways toward stability and independence.
