From Seed to Submission: A Practical Grant Writing Workshop for Care Farmers
If you’ve ever opened a grant application and immediately closed the tab—this session is for you. This practical, hands-on workshop will guide care farmers through the process of developing a strong grant proposal—from clearly defining your project and aligning with a funder’s mission to telling a compelling story rooted in both data and lived experience. We’ll also briefly explore strategies for finding funding and building partnerships with community organizations. Lastly, participants will learn how AI tools can ethically and effectively support brainstorming, refining language, and organizing ideas—without replacing your authentic voice.
Presenter
Kara McCall, Executive Director, Red Wiggler Care Farm
Kara first joined Red Wiggler in 2009 as a college intern, drawn to the farm’s unique mission and inclusive community. She went on to serve in several key roles—including Volunteer Coordinator and Program Manager—before stepping into the Executive Director position. Between her early years at Red Wiggler and her return to leadership, Kara led member operations at Cleo, a family benefits startup, where she deepened her expertise in organizational systems, user-centered design, and team building. She brings a strong commitment to neurodiversity, sustainable agriculture, and community-driven work as she guides Red Wiggler into its next chapter.
Kara loves to garden, knit, sew, hike, and play make believe with her 3-year-old. She is a loss mom and hopes to someday start a care farm for other grieving parents. Always looking for adventure, she and her family took a 5-month long RV road trip across the US in late 2024 and early 2025.
