The Charles Koiner Conservancy for Urban Farming (CKC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit land trust dedicated to protecting and sustaining urban farms in Montgomery County, MD.
Our mission is to create and sustain a network of neighborhood farms that promote healthy living, inspire food system innovation and build community resilience.
Our vision is of thriving and resilient communities that treat agricultural land as a shared resource and leverage it for social benefit.
We believe that farms should be like parks, one in every neighborhood and open to all! We are working to create a thriving network of community-led farms throughout the urban neighborhoods of Montgomery County, Maryland that establish closed-loop micro-food systems and help Montgomery County residents connect with neighbors, food and land, regardless of land ownership status.
Care Farming
Care Farming at Koiner Farm is specifically for adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities. The Care Farming sessions provide job training and skills development. The Care Farmers are responsible for setting up the Farm Markets, harvesting herbs, and creating seasonal decor for our farms. Our primary Care Farming partner is Ivymount School, and we are members of the Care Farming Network.
