Care Farming Network is Hiring!

CFN is recruiting for a Program Coordinator who will work closely with CFN’s Project Manager and Outreach & Communications Consultant to implement and develop new programs to support CFN’s member farms.  This exciting new position will allow the Program Coordinator to help develop and implement new initiatives to fulfill our goals of increasing awareness and building the capacity and community of care farms throughout North America. We seek a candidate with strong interpersonal skills and knowledge in developing programs and executing events. The right candidate will thrive in a position that requires a range of competencies: representing and serving as an ambassador for the Care Farming Network at events, coordinating behind-the-scenes logistics, and developing CFN’s online resource catalog and library.

Helping Friendly Farm

Helping Friendly Farm is a one-of-a-kind nonprofit therapeutic farm in Bucks County, PA whose mission is to enhance the lives of disabled individuals and their families through the power of animals, nature, and safe sensory exploration. They have a sensory barn designed to allow individuals to explore on their own terms, without overwhelming external stimuli. And you have to check out their goats, named after the greatest all-time athletes!

Join us December 7th to celebrate and share what you accomplished in 2023 and what your resolutions are for 2024! This will be a round-robin open discussion open to all- including those who are in the dreaming stages of planning a care farm!

Special Guest Maarten Fischer Shares His International Care Farming Knowledge with CFN Members 

Maarten Fischer was the guest presenter at November's Monthly Member Gathering. Maarten Fischer is the director of the National Federation of Dutch Care Farms which provides advocacy, a national quality standard, support innovation, and an academy for the more than 950 Care farms in their membership. Internationally recognized as a leader in the Care Farming movement, he shared his history of working in the Care Farming movement in Europe and the United States and answered questions from members. He is a wealth of information and we so appreciated hearing from him!

EquiCenter Receives Support for Veterans Programs

Congratulations to EquiCenter- they are recipients of a 2023 Department of Veterans Affairs Adaptive Sports Grant. EquiCenter offers veteran programming to our service men and women at no cost and this grant helps to offset the cost of their mounted and unmounted lessons with domesticated and wild horses.

EquiCenter's adaptive riding and unmounted horsemanship lessons are tailored to provide optimum experiences for each student. All of their instructors are PATH certified and use a variety of methods to enhance participants' horsemanship skills as well as physical and cognitive abilities.(NY)

Soulful Seeds Receives Grant From USDA

Soulful Seeds is the recipient of a grant award from the USDA- Department of Forestry Program. Through the grant program, Soulful Seeds will be reimbursed up to $200,000 per year over five years for grant-related activities. That is a total award of $1M!!! In their program proposal, they presented an idea to bring a same-day-work-and-pay program to the community, train new arborists through an apprenticeship program, and expand the number of urban orchards in their community. Congrats on being rewarded for the great work you do, Soulful Seeds! (NV)

Participate in Research Study on Goats! (MA)

Cultivate Care Farms is seeking participants for a research study on goats. Should you or your child choose to participate, please email: research@cultivatefarms.org and write “goat therapy” in your subject line. In your email, please list the number of participants and their ages. Cultivate Care Farms will email you back to schedule a time to answer your questions, review the informed consent document, and set-up the study session. Any questions can be sent to the same email.
